Joomla Disqus comments broken? Here's the fix

If your Joomla site is getting a "Browser Compatibility" error where your Disqus comments used to be there is a temporary fix here.

Earlier this afternoon one of our clients reported their Disqus feed wasn't working. On investigation we found Disqus on this site and another Joomla site on a different host was also down. All were generating an error about browswer incompatibility in all browsers. Seems something has been updated or changed on the Disqus end affecting all Joomla sites.

Here's the fix

Download "MooTools Core 1.4.5 without compatibility" from the Mootools site. Rename the file to mootools-core.js and upload it to the following location overwriting the existing file.

/media/system/js/mootools-core.js

You should now be back in business.

Thanks to Marek Wojtaszek (@CSnipper), maker of the K2 Meets Disqus plugin, for finding the solution.

EDIT: It has been discovered since writing this that using the non-compatibility file causes an error in Joomla's modal.js file. It also interferes with the LazyLoad for Joomla plugin and probably others. Test your site thoroughly. What ever Disqus did to their software today, it's broken their comments system on every Joomla2.5 website on the web. They haven't responded to any of our tweets but I'm sure they'll fix this when the complaints start rolling in.
